Welcome to Perishable Technology Research and Consulting

Specializing in the identification and analysis of textiles, basketry, and other perishable artifacts.

For those unfamiliar with this class of material culture, perishable technology subsumes fiber-based industries like cordage, nets, sandals, baskets and textiles proper. Objects of wood or animal fur, feathers, and hide may also be included. As these items are, in most contexts, subject to the natural processes of decomposition, they are, quite literally, perishable.

The purpose of these pages is to make ourselves available to other researchers and interested individuals who might require assistance in perishable artifact identification and analysis. Perishable materials exist as important documents of complex human behavior and we are very interested in learning about them whenever the opportunity arises. Simultaneously, by making our own current research accessible we hope to stimulate discussion and receive constructive feedback that will help us hone our ideas.

We would enjoy hearing from you and appreciate any comments and suggestions you may have. Thanks for stopping by!

Sincerely,

Edward A. Jolie and Ruth Burgett Jolie
